PROJECT OBJECTIVE:
The Optimal Health for Women project focused on:
1. Offering community- and facility-based cancer prevention.
2. Training on breast self-examination.
3. Breast screening and cervical cancer screening for women and girls, and
4. Campaign for HPV vaccination for young boys and girls aged 9–26 years.
PROJECT DETAILS
Community mobilization and publicity started on January 3rd, 2023. Several letters and handbills were distributed to several churches, mosques, schools, and health centers. In addition, publicity via social media and the radio was embarked upon.
The Blue-Pink team started the project with a facility-based outreach on February 4th, 2023, which was held at the Blue-Pink Center. The program started at noon with about 50 participants. Mr. Ajala provided health education on breast cancer and cervical cancer and also introduced H.P.V. vaccinations to the people. A question-and-answer session followed with significant interaction between the facilitators and the community women. The screening process started, and over 30 participants were screened for breast and cervical cancer.
Several team members were present at the event, including Rchp. Ogundele Toheebat, Felicia Etuk, and Aishat Shoyinka.
